As a child welfare advocate, I am proud to highlight The Hidden Survivors, a new and deeply important report released by One Young World in partnership with ACNA.
This report brings forward the voices of care leavers who experienced sexual abuse while in care voices that for too long have been overlooked, minimized, or unheard. Their stories demand our attention, our action, and our commitment to creating safer, more accountable systems.
The Hidden Survivors is more than a report. It is a call to all of us working in child welfare to re-examine the structures meant to protect children and young people, to confront the gaps that still exist, and to centre lived experience in every conversation about reform.
Every child and young person deserves safety, dignity, and support.
As advocates, we have a responsibility to push for trauma-informed policies, stronger safeguards, and environments where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered.
