About the book

There have been global debates about whether orphans and vulnerable children needing alternative care should be allowed to grow in institutions (orphanages) or families. Significant findings demonstrate the importance of family-based care, the limitations of orphanages, and the motivations of foster advocates, social workers, orphanage administrators, and adoption agents who have attempted to mediate this process. The book “Family Based Vs Institutional Care: Best Approaches in Caring for Orphans and Vulnerable Children in need of Alternative Care”provides a comprehensive account of foster and institutional care, which embodies Ghana’s alternative care for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. It examines the socio-legal, political, cultural, and economic views on caring for vulnerable children. It presents a balanced view of the complex motivations and circumstances of all those whose lives are touched by adoption, orphanhood, and fostering.

Most importantly, the book focuses on the 21st-century approach to caring for orphans and vulnerable children in Ghana.
